The collections of Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar’s social drama Chhapaak, which took a hit after its opening weekend, have benefited from the partial holiday of Makar Sankranti on Tuesday, 14 January.
The film earned a decent Rs 2.55 crore on Tuesday, pushing its current total to Rs 23.92 crore.
According to trade analysts, the film’s business is expected to remain steady on 15 January.
Based on the life of acid attack survivor and activist Laxmi Agarwal, Chhapaak released on 10 June, alongside Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan-starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Rajinikanth-starrer Darbar. Tanhaji is already on the cusp of entering the Rs 100-crore club as its collection currently stands at Rs 90.96 crore.
Ahead of the release of the film, Deepika had visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi to express her solidarity following the masked mob attacks on the students on 5 January. After her visit, a social media-wide boycott was called by those who opposed her stance. Many assumed her visit to JNU had affected the overall performance of the film at the box office. However, the boycott has supposedly not affected the ticketing sales for Chhapaak.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan told Firstpost, “Even before the boycott, we were expecting the film to open at Rs 3.5 to 4.5 crore, as the release was very limited. It is still a limited release. They haven’t gone all out. The film has received well in the multiplexes of Chandigarh, Delhi, and the northern part of the country. The film registered good occupancy in the high-end multiplexes.”
Chhapaak also stars Vikrant Massey, Madhurjeet Sarghi, Vishal Dahiya, and Ankit Bisht in supporting roles. Meghna Gulzar has directed the film written by Atika Ghosh. It was recently declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
It so happened that Ranveer Singh took to Instagram to post a few pictures of himself all dressed up for an event. And Deepika ‘wifey’ Padukone couldn’t resist and dropped a ‘going where??’ to which hubby dearest had the most endearing answer. Check it out here! Pardon us for it has taken this long but we want to crown Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the king and queen of Insta PDA. Cause admit it, there’s no beating them when it comes to leaving flirty and cheeky comments on each other’s pictures. The couple has mastered the art of cute banters on the gram but hey, we aren’t complaining. If anything it gives us ample of opportunities to gush over #DeepVeer. In fact, when not making us go ‘Aww’ the duo leaves us in splits over their back and forth comments. Do you not remember when Deepika Padukone warned hubby Ranveer Singh about him coming home to a broom? Or him not getting any dinner? Yeah, they don’t tire! So much so that, they have done it again and the end result is making us all mushy. It so happened that Ranveer Singh took to Instagram to post a few pictures of himself all dressed up for an event. And Deepika ‘wifey’ Padukone couldn’t resist and dropped a ‘going where??’ to which hubby dearest had the most endearing answer. See for yourself. Hai na, aww-worthy? Told ya! On the work front, fans(including us) are waiting with bated breath to see them as husband and wife in Kabir Khan’s ’83. Ranveer will step into the shoes of Kapil Dev who is fondly remembered as the Haryana Hurricane. Deepika will portray Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia Dev in the film which is scheduled to release in theatres on 10th April 2020. ’83 is a biopic based on the life of former Indian skipper Kapil Dev and also narrates the story of India’s historic win at the coveted World Cup in 1983.
Mumbai: Actress Deepika Padukone says she is nervous and excited about her Hollywood debut xXx: Return of Xander Cage that stars Vin Diesel.
“I am really excited. This is my Hollywood debut. I am very nervous, but I am also very excited. And today is the beginning to that journey. Hopefully, we will be coming to India soon,” Deepika said on 1 January before leaving for the US to kick-start the film’s promotion.
“In terms of promotion, first we will head to Mexico. As far as the release is concerned, we will first release the movie in India. While shooting the film, I discussed this with my unit… that it would be great to first release it in India and I am happy that it is finally happening,” she added.
After her Hollywood debut later this month, Deepika will be known for being more than a Hindi film actress.
Talking about it, she said: “I think I’d like to be known as a good person and a good actor. But I also feel very proud that I get to represent my country, especially in this kind of action franchise of the film.”
“I am really excited. I am also very sure we will enjoy this film because of its content. There is a lot of action, adventure in the film, which we have not seen in Indian films before. So, I can’t wait to bring this movie to India and show it to everyone.”
xXx: Return of Xander Cage, helmed by DJ Caruso, also stars Donnie Yen and Samuel L Jackson.
Deepika Padukone stars in an inspiring new video with Indian female athletes for a Nike campaign. Taking off from the brand’s tag line: “Just Do It”, the video sees Deepika training hard in the gym and on the badminton court as other athletes like hockey player Rani Rampal, footballer Jyoti Ann Burrett and cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandana and Shubhlakshmi Sharma are also visualised pulling off their jaw-dropping feats.
Sharing the video on her Facebook page, Deepika accompanied it with a post on how sports has helped her through difficult phases in her life:
“When I was growing up my father said to me, ‘To be the best, always remember the three D’s — Discipline, Dedication and Determination. Follow your heart. Do what you are passionate about.’ Sport has taught me how to handle failure. It has also taught me how to handle success. It has kept me grounded. It has taught me humility,” Deepika wrote on Facebook.
She also referred to her (now commonly known) battle with depression, and her efforts to overcome it.
“Two years ago I struggled with depression,” wrote Deepika. “I was sinking. I almost gave up. But it was the athlete in me that gave me the strength to fight and never ever give up!”
She goes on to exhort everyone to open their eyes to the power of sport, and its ability to make a positive impact on individual lives, and society.
“I want to say to every girl and every boy and every woman and every man…play a sport…because it changed my life…and it will change yours too! Sport has taught me how to survive! It has taught me how to fight! It has made me unstoppable!” Deepika added, before signing off with “#JustDoIt”.
The video by Deepika for Nike comes in the run-up to the 2016 Olympics at Rio, and is sure to generate even greater support for the Indian contingent as they head for the Games. It had 895,286 views within just seven hours of being uploaded by Deepika.
That title may be a bit childish, but they’re the exact words used by Kangana Ranaut in relation to her upcoming film Katti Batti and her rumoured rival Deepika Padukone.
We’ve been reading stories about their rift since early this year. It all started with an awards ceremony and Deepika’s acknowledgment that the Best Actress award (which was awarded to her) should have been given to Kangana.
Some called it a PR stunt, some called it a way for Deepika to reach out to Kangana, but it has opened up a Pandora’s box of miscommunication. What followed were a series of rumours, cryptic messages from both stars and a buzzing rumour mill.
In a recent interview with critic Rajeev Masand, Kangana Ranaut, along with co-star Imran Khan and director Nikhil Advani (of Katti Batti), the Queen actress was at her unfiltered best.
While playing a little game of holding up a card of either Katti or Batti for people from the industry, she held up the Katti card for Deepika Padukone. Without blinking an eyelid.
We can’t say that we are surprised. However, Kangana’s nonchalance towards the issue was the surprise element.
“I just want to be left alone,” she said, upon being asked about why she held up the Katti card.
During the interview, she mentioned several times, that “some people” need to mind their own business and stop meddling in her life.
Of course, she was praised for always been honest, but thanks Kangana, for showing us exactly how it would be like to be in your bad books.
