Taapsee Pannu on Saand Ki Aankh’s ageism debate: ‘We have a dearth of parts for women in general’

Taapsee Pannu says she understands why her and co-star Bhumi Pednekar’s transformation as women in their 60s in Saand Ki Aankh would spark a debate.

A Twitter user had pointed out that the film should have gone to female actors like Shabana Azmi and Neena Gupta as they were actually in their 60s. Neena agreed with the fan, saying at least they should get the roles that fall under their age bracket.

Taapsee said while she can see where the criticism is coming from, she will not let go of a good opportunity as such parts are hard to come by for women stars of all ages.

“Forget about old, the young actresses also have fewer parts. The problem is with women parts in general. We have a dearth of parts for women in general. Having done the kind of things we have done (in our career), it is just a snowball effect to keep getting those challenging roles, but how many actresses get those kind of roles?,” the actress told PTI in an interview.

“I understand where these senior actresses are coming from that they expected they should get these roles because even fewer roles are being written for them. Understandable. But having said that, I am very greedy for a good film. I will not let a good film go out of my hand just because I am not that age, or I’m not that gender. I will play a man also, if they offered me a great script.”

Bhumi also echoed her co-star, saying, “Their (Neena) angst and their opinion is right because there is a dearth of good roles for women and that too women of their age group. But having said that, it is a director’s prerogative to cast the person he wants to take. If I want to do a film, then why shouldn’t I?

“As an actor, the basic job is to keep on challenging yourself and get out of your comfort zone. I should be able to live different lives. To be able to pull off different characters.”

Saand Ki Aankh, also featuring Vineet Kumar Singh and Prakash Jha in pivotal roles, will release on 25  October.

Dabangg 3 : Salman Khan’s Chulbul Pandey fights Kiccha Sudeep’s Balli in upcoming Prabhu Deva film

After a long wait, the makers of Dabangg 3, finally dropped the trailer on 23 October (Wednesday). The film marks the return of Salman Khan as the iconic cop Chulbul Pandey. “Ek hota hai police wala, ek hota hai gunda. Hum kehlate hain police wala gunda (On one side there are cops and on the other there are gangsters. I embody both),” is how Chulbul reintroduces himself.

The trailer sees him walk around the ghats, shoot down bad guys and introduces us to one of his subordinates, who demands a promotion. A younger Chulbul is also seen in the clip, alongside his then romantic interest Khushi (played by debutant Saiee Manjrekar). However, there is Balli (Kiccha Sudeep), who seems to go out of the way to cause grief in Chulbul’s life. Dabangg 3’s trailer promises coordinated dance performances by the actors, high octane action, comedy and bombastic dialogues.

The film will also reportedly see Arbaaz Khan as Chulbul’s brother Makkhi and Dimple Kapadia in a flashback sequence. Sonakshi Sinha plays Rajjo while Vinod Khanna’s brother Pramod will portray Chulbul’s father Prajapati Pandey.

The trailer of Dabangg 3 is set to be included with screenings of Housefull 4, as reported earlier. The makers had previously attached the film’s teaser with Hrithik Roshan-starrer high octane action thriller War.

Directed by Prabhu Deva, Dabangg 3 is produced by Salman Khan Films and Arbaaz Khan Production. It is scheduled to release on 20 December in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil. The duo have previously worked together on 2009’s Wanted. They have another film, Radhe, in the pipeline, which will hit cinemas on Eid 2020.

Ranveer Singh is ready to go wherever Deepika Padukone takes him and it is making us go

It so happened that Ranveer Singh took to Instagram to post a few pictures of himself all dressed up for an event. And Deepika ‘wifey’ Padukone couldn’t resist and dropped a ‘going where??’ to which hubby dearest had the most endearing answer. Check it out here! Pardon us for it has taken this long but we want to crown Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the king and queen of Insta PDA. Cause admit it, there’s no beating them when it comes to leaving flirty and cheeky comments on each other’s pictures. The couple has mastered the art of cute banters on the gram but hey, we aren’t complaining. If anything it gives us ample of opportunities to gush over #DeepVeer. In fact, when not making us go ‘Aww’ the duo leaves us in splits over their back and forth comments. Do you not remember when Deepika Padukone warned hubby Ranveer Singh about him coming home to a broom? Or him not getting any dinner? Yeah, they don’t tire! So much so that, they have done it again and the end result is making us all mushy. It so happened that Ranveer Singh took to Instagram to post a few pictures of himself all dressed up for an event. And Deepika ‘wifey’ Padukone couldn’t resist and dropped a ‘going where??’ to which hubby dearest had the most endearing answer. See for yourself. Hai na, aww-worthy? Told ya! On the work front, fans(including us) are waiting with bated breath to see them as husband and wife in Kabir Khan’s ’83. WAR: ‘Thankfully, we were side by side and not facing each other,’ Tiger Shroff opens up on the first day with his mentor Hrithik Roshan

WAR is shattering all records at the Indian box office. Everyone who has seen the Tiger Shroff – Hrithik Roshan action drama is raving about the spectacular fight sequences and chemistry between the two hunks. In an EXCLUSIVE chat with BollywoodLife, Tiger Shroff said, “I was so nervous on the first day. I was shaking in my knees. Thankfully, we were side by side and not facing one another. Since we were not seeing each other directly, I could give the shot confidently.” We also told Tiger that Hrithik Roshan has spoken about how particular he was about getting everything right as he feels that the Baaghi actor is quite exceptional. “He is just doing natak. He is a very good actor. Whatever I have done or achieved is because I am inspired by him. I have to thank him for what I have achieved.”

Unlike his contemporaries, Tiger Shroff is the only one who has a market in a definite space. “I am blessed that people have accepted me as an action hero. There is so much competition so how does one stand out. The action hero tag has given me an identity. I am very thankful to the audience,” he says. Talking further about the experience of working with his idol, Hrithik Roshan, Tiger gushes, “For me there was no bigger high than when I would see my shots on the monitor and he did say something nice or give a feedback. That is my most precious memory and takeaway from WAR. Growing up, you idolise someone, then you get a chance to work with him and he appreciates you. There is no bigger high than that.”

When we asked Tiger Shroff about the comparisons to Saaho, another action extravaganza that released, he says that he did not get a chance to watch the film. He also told us that he would definitely like to do an action film with Prabhas Sir. As it is observed, many people love action stars of the West but have complaints with desi ones. Tiger Shroff’s acting skills even in action flicks have been under the scanner. Does that bother him? “It does. I mean what action heroes do, very few people can. It is not just about action but the emotions and expression behind the action. It is a loud form of expression. Doing that plus performing is not the easiest of tasks. I feel it is a misconception,” states the actor. He also reveals how the team of WAR started cheering as Hrithik Roshan and Tiger began shooting for the hit, Jai Jai Shiv Shankar. “We were so involved with the choreography that we did not realise that we were in the same frame,” he says. The film is made by Siddharth Anand of Salaam Namaste fame!
